portland, day 4

We started the day in Washington Park, a huge green space within the city with lots of trails, a rose garden with 600 varieties (not in bloom yet), a japanese garden and lots of parky stuff to do :). After we wandered around the park we headed up the hill to Pittock Mansion and then a short hike to the Witches Castle and finished up the day with a late lunch at Pok Pok for Thai street food inspired deliciousness and donuts from voodoo donuts. It’s a good thing we are keeping fairly active, we’ve eaten a lot of really great food. Portland is definitely a place we need to come back too, there is so much more to eat and drink that we have to repeat!

very “Portland” tree ie. weird
interesting markings on the weird tree branch
Mount Hood in the distance
one small section of the rose garden

Pittock Mansion

Witches Castle

The Witches Castle has nothing to do with either, maybe just another portlandism ;). It was a short hike from the parking lot to an abandoned ranger station/bathroom building.

Pok Pok

Another great recommendation from Janet that did not disappoint! Some of the best chicken wings ever!

Ike’s Vietnamese Fish Sauce Wings (Available Spicy)
Half dozen fresh whole natural chicken wings marinated in fish sauce and sugar, deep fried, tossed in caramelized Vietnamese fish sauce and garlic and served with Do Chua (pickled vegetables). Our signature dish. Based on our daytime cook Ike’s recipe from his home in Vietnam.
Pok Pok Special
Deep fried crispy battered chicken breast smothered in fried aromatics with a small green papaya salad (Papaya Pok Pok), sticky rice and dipping sauces.
Kaeng Hang Leh
Northern Thai sweet pork belly and pork shoulder curry with ginger, palm sugar, turmeric, tamarind, Burmese curry powder and pickled garlic.  Rich and exotically spiced, a Chiang Mai classic with Burmese origins. We import Jeng Ong brand Phong Masala, a one man, second generation maker from Mae Hong Son for this dish.
Prawn and glass noodle, not on the website so no description but delicious!
Leftovers that we thought we’d have as a dinner snack but we’re still so full (and have donuts to eat :))

Voodoo donuts

We had some of these in Disney Springs in Orlando so it was a no brainer to visit the home location 🙂
