we are here, Fredericton (again!)

Well, we had a little bit of excitement today. Our plan was to drive from Halifax to Woodstock, NB, just before the Maine border, to split up the drive to Boston. We were having a scenic drive, the leaves are changing and the colours are unbelievable. The trees are almost neon, we’ve never seen anything like it (not sure if it translates in the pictures below). We’ve read about fall on the east coast and thought meh! We’ve seen trees before ;). Back to our excitement, we were almost to Fredericton and had to pull over as nature was calling (not a surprise if you know me ;)). When the business was done and we were pulling away Chris says, do you hear that? I say, it’s just the road, we’re not going that fast so it’s a little rough, check the tire pressure if you’re worried. Thankful for modern technology, with just the push of a button we could see the air pressure of all 4 tires. Well, the rear passenger sides tires air pressure was dropping fast, something had punctured the tire. We pulled over, after having seen signs that we were in the middle of an Army combat training zone and not to leave the highway…yikes! Yep, when we opened the doors we heard the air or nitrogen mix rushing to freedom. So, fully loaded, we unloaded the bikes, our 2 suitcases and 2 Rubbermaid totes to get the spare tire out. We were now those people you drive by changing their tire on the side of the road and say, that sucks or sucks to be them! We started to jack up the car when we remembered, we have roadside assistance! After calling and giving our location and info we could’ve changed the tire already. We decided to let the tow truck come and started to change the tire, we are so butch! Lol. It was a little unnerving hearing what seemed like bombs going off just beyond the tree line but we finished changing the tire and were putting the jack away and the tow truck pulled up, of course! I asked him to make sure I tightened the lug nuts enough and he was on his way. We found an auto shop that wasn’t to far away and still open, we limped there and were told the hole in the tire was too big to repair and they didn’t have a replacement. After calling 2 Canadian Tires because they were still open, one had a replacement that was a different brand tire but I thought whatever, it doesn’t need to match. The only problem was they were booked and could not fit us in and suggested leaving the car with them tomorrow and they’d do it if they could. We’d like to be in Boston as planned tomorrow so decided to call Costco, as they were also still open, to see if they’d be able to do better. Good thing I did because I was told with an all wheel drive vehicle all tires should match. Including brand, tread pattern and wear is recommended. So, with our tires having 53,000 km on them, we need to replace all 4. Ugh! Costco came through though, they have to bring the tires in but they will be here tomorrow barring anything unexpected and they fit us in to have them put on at noon or earlier. We cancelled our Woodstock hotel and found a room in Fredericton so with a little luck, this time tomorrow we’ll be in Boston. Fingers crossed!
