We had a good stay in Nanaimo but were ready to move on to a big city 😊. Our time on the Island wasn’t quite as planned but we still enjoyed the spring weather, we did some good walking, hiking and biking. We’ll have to come back once the world is back to normal, whatever that may be, to enjoy more of the sites and restaurants that were closed this time around.
We had originally thought we’d catch the ferry from departure bay which was super convenient from the Airbnb, but when we went to reserve a spot we found that departure bay was being used for commercial transport only! Change of plans, duke point, while not as convenient was still only a half hour away, but no availability! Gah! In order to reserve a spot at the time we wanted we’d have to drive back to Swartz Bay. It was only an hour and a half drive but…not what we had hoped for. We were super early to the ferry terminal, there were maybe 10 cars there. While it was definitely no where near full, which we appreciated, a few more cars and trucks showed up 😊.
We’re in a cute little one bedroom apartment in the city, close to the gayborhood, too bad all the bars and pubs are closed 😑. We’re looking forward to biking around the sea wall and walking to all of our favourite food spots for takeout. If any locals are down for socially distant coffee let us know 😊.
A few pics from the ferry on the way over, a couple of times the ferry was heading straight towards an island and it didn’t look like we had any where to go but straight into it. Luckily, they’ve done this route before 😜.
