We weren’t sure what to expect in Winnipeg but were nicely surprised. We stayed in the Exchange District, which has seemingly undergone a revitalization as it was suggested before we arrived that it may not be that nice of an area. We felt safe in the neighbourhood, we didn’t see or hear anything that would make us think otherwise. We were within walking distance of The Forks, the Museum of Human Rights, plenty of theatre and dining options and a craft brewery that we quite liked. We were also about a block from the Red River which has a pretty good pathway system that looks like it maybe floods regularly with the amount of debris washed up in lower lying areas. Winnipeg is surprisingly bike friendly, lots of paths and bike lanes. We drove out to the Mint and did the tour which was interesting, we may do the tour at the Mint in Ottawa as well. The weekend after we left was Pride, lots of support throughout the city. We’d definitely come back again. A few pics below :).
Hey we have back in angle parking too!!
Don’t think there is such a thing in Calgary…maybe by design as most Calgarians aren’t very good drivers 🤪
Very interesting and awesome pictures. Thanks for posting. I did not know that the Yellowhead started in Winnipeg that was cool.
I didn’t know either!
Love this post, and glad you enjoyed your stay in our hometown of the “wicked-peg”! You hit some great spots. FYI, the Red River does flood regularly, prompting the construction of the floodway (huge flood water diversion ditch around the city) in the 60’s, at a cost of $63M then, protecting 140,000 homes, 8,000 businesses from the 1 in 700 year flood event and more than $60B in cumulative flood damage, but apparently the pathways are considered sacrificial:
