we are here, Cape Breton Island

Leaving our Airbnb in PEI we had about an hour and a half drive to the ferry leaving from Wood Island PE to Caribou NS. With the Tropical Cyclone information statement that was issued for PEI and Nova Scotia we were hopeful that the ferry would be on schedule and we could carry on as planned. When we checked the schedule first thing this morning the 8 and 9:30 crossings were canceled but the 11:15 and 1, which we were to be on, were still crossing. When we arrived at the terminal at 12:20 the 11:15 was just leaving and the 1 o’clock was about 15 mins behind. Our timing couldn’t have been any better if we had planned it! My luck ran out there, seas were really rough and I hadn’t even thought about getting sea sick, we have some Bonine from our last cruise that would have worked wonders if I’d taken it. Shortly after departure I began to feel it, we had a bit to eat since I thought an empty stomach wasn’t helping. The food helped a bit but we spent the rest of the ride outside, in the shelter of a doorway as it was raining, where I could see the horizon in the fresh air. Thankfully it was only about 75 minutes to cross. After the ferry we had just over a 2 hour drive to Baddeck. It rained almost the entire drive and then on and off all night. Tomorrow is supposed to clear up thankfully, we’ve got some touristing to do! Turns out the 4 pm ferry was cancelled as well, we sure got lucky!

We have 3 stops as we travel around the Cabot Trail, Baddeck, then off to Ingonish and finish up in Chéticamp before we head off to Dartmouth. Hopefully storms Erin and Dorian miss the maritimes altogether, fingers crossed!
